![]() ![]() His opinion, (which honestly is a fair one) is that there really isn't enough overlap between the NASA research and my current job function. I hoped he might see it as an opportunity to send one of his employees on an "educational sabbatical" that could provide skills/experience which could be brought back to the company. I spoke with my boss about the opportunity yesterday. A lot of great opinions.Įdit2: I should have mentioned this before. If you were me, would you go after your dream of researching at NASA (even if it's just for 10 weeks), to see what it could lead to? Or would you stay in your comfortable job (which you don't love) and hope a less risky opportunity arrives later down the road?Įdit: Thanks for the responses, everyone. There's no gaurantee I'll get another job immediately afterwards. Which means taking the NASA internship could potentially put me in a tight situation financially. Also, the NASA opportunity is only 10 weeks long and as I mentioned prior it pays 1/3 what I'm getting now. If I go, I'll likely have to quit my current job, which would make me seem like an asshole since they've invested time/money into training me and I've only been there for a few months. This particular research opportunity involves bio-signal processing, which I also am very interested in.īut I'm torn. I also love research and published 4 (pending 5) journal papers in college. I love space, I own all Neil Tyson's books, my favorite coffee mug has a Carl Sagan quote, etc., etc. I've wanted to work for NASA since I was a kid. However, this morning "other options" arrived via an internship offer from NASA. I planned to work here for a few years (to pay off some college debt - currently about $60k) and then start exploring other options. The only problem is that this line of work isn't what I want to do for the rest of my life. It's a pretty nice job it pays well, has great benefits, and the engineers I work with are a friendly bunch. Okay, so I graduated with an EE degree in december and immediately got a job for a semiconductor company in January. Send the moderators a message and we can unblock it as soon as possible.
